Outline Tour of KwaZulu Natal

Day 1

Arrive King Shaka Airport and meet Ron. Brief tour of the city – history; cultures; beaches, before checking in to accommodation – dinner on the waterfront.

Day 2

After breakfast there is a full background “briefing” before setting out for Zululand at 09h30 – Zulu War sites en route – experience ancient Zulu culture – Hippo/Croc tour of the St Lucia estuary - overnight in St Lucia.

Day 3

Very early start! - morning game drive thru’ Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Park – visit Ulundi (final battle of the Anglo Zulu War) – Monument to the early Zulu Kings – The Zulu Royal cattle – Battle of Gqokli Hill (Shaka/Zwide) - follow the line of advance of the Zulu army to Isandlwana – accommodation near Rorke’s Drift. (The Battle of Blood River is an option on this day).

Day 4

Full day guided experience of Isandlwana, Rorke’s Drift and the Fugitives’ Drift.

Day 5

Drive through to the Drakensberg Mountains - (visit to Battle of Spioenkop is an option) – check in to accommodation in the foothills – afternoon and next 2 days in this area – walks; view rock art at a bushmen cave; horse riding; etc. (guide leaves you for this period).

Days 6 & 7

Guide meets you after breakfast – drive thru’ the Midlands Meander area – experience a modern Zulu township – visit the Nelson Mandela capture site; Howick Falls and historical Pietermaritzburg – catch evening flight from King Shaka airport.
